Gluten-free Chickpea Wraps

April 2, 2017 Tzabia Siegel

This recipe was inspired by Carla, a client who has shifted into wholesome eating but wanted a healthy wrap as an option for when she's on the go at lunch. I promised that I'd work on an adaptation of my Chickpea Crepe that would be sturdy enough to stand up to lots of veggies, avocado and protein. Here it is. It's yummy and it stands the test of stuffings.

A Killer Recipe for Beating Colds

January 27, 2017 Tzabia Siegel

Onions, garlic, and ginger are a powerful team against viruses. When you feel the symptoms of a cold setting in, take 15 minutes to make enough of this saucy mix to last you a few days. Serve it over short grain brown rice if you need more sustenance and comfort.

Shatavari is an Ayurvedic herb, one of the most commonly used in India for women to balance the reproductive tissues and hormones. Used for the mood swings and irritability of PMS, menopausal hot flashes, fertility, it is an herb of such potency that it is translated as “she who possesses 100 husbands”. I personally like to make a warm milk at night to help deepen my sleep and reduce hot flashes.

Recipe: Cocoa Nib Cookies

A friend asked me if I had any suggestions for what to do with cacao nibs that she has in her cupboard and I immediately thought of this recipe. These are delicious but the benefits go beyond taste. Cacao nibs (partially ground cacao beans) and the cocoa powder have an abundant source of antioxidants, magnesium, and iron.

Recipe: Quinoa Sesame Salad

October 18, 2016 Tzabia Siegel

I love the combination of grains or vegetables with sesame oil. As with any oil, look for one that is unrefined in dark bottles to preserve the quality of the fatty acids.

Recipe: Walnut Date Cinnamon Protein Shake

I’m into protein shakes these days. Love them as a first morning meal and sometimes when working from home as a late afternoon snack. They are also a great inclusion for pre or post workout if you can make that happen. But I am a stickler for taste…and some of the shakes that I have tried from others’ recipes just don’t cut it for me flavour-wise.

Quinoa Chocolate Cake

September 15, 2016 Tzabia Siegel

I took my partner, Barry, to Niagara last weekend and we stayed at a lovely B&B called The Orchard Croft http://www.orchardcroft.ca/. When I told the owner, Ildiko, that it was Barry’s birthday and that I was going gluten and dairy free these days, she baked this cake!

This turns out beautifully. Yummy, filling, and a great base for melted cheese, or eggs and spinach. I can imagine how wonderful it would be as the base of an eggs benedict.

Recipe: Simmered Quinoa

May 18, 2016 Tzabia Siegel

Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) is one of my favourite whole grains. It is light, nutty in flavour, and unlike a lot of other grains is good hot or cold. It provides an excellent vegetable source of protein, complete in its amino acid profile, an abundance of calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese and zinc, as well as the B vitamins.
